Current League - Cup League 3 (2nd May to 30th May, 5 weeks)
Welcome to Cup League 3!
I've got through the first, and am now onto my second league since taking over from Nick. While hopefully the balance is a little better than Cup League 2 (the twin towers have again been split), we're in a tricky spot with overall player numbers...
Now that the NZ age group teams have been selected, I've put all U24 reps in the A grade, and all U19 reps in the B grade, and paired people up where possible.
Unfortunately, this means the C grade is a little lighter on numbers, so it's been reduced to two teams. What we will do is have a number of A/B grade players to assist: refereeing, coaching and filling in (gently) if needed. Depending on how things are going after a few weeks, we may re-mux the C grade teams to change it up a bit.
Given the overall reduction from nine to eight teams, the game format is changing to 25-minute game slots to maximise pool space: 10-minute halves, with two-minute half times and three minutes between games.
This is a no-merc league. The expectation is that if you want to play, you'll sign up. I've had this conversation with some of our out-of-town players and will reinforce that before the mid-year holidays. The one exception for this league allows U19 players to play in A grade if a team is light on numbers and it doesn't clash with their games.
I haven't assigned captains, someone from each team please set up a messenger or equivalent chat to co-ordinate.
Winter is coming, as are North Island champs. Enjoy!
Any questions, reach out via clubs@wuha.org.nz.
